An Extraordinary Evening at the Children’s Book Bank

Board members, staff and volunteers of the Children’s Book Bank attended a very special event on September 28 when Shannon Neufeldt from KAIROS and Dr. Bob Phillips (a non-status Mi’kmaq elder) led the KAIROS Blanket Exercise. This exercise is a teaching tool that helps to raise awareness of the nation to nation relationship between Indigenous and non -Indigenous peoples in Canada and also teaches a history of Canada that most people never learn. It was an evening that increased awareness of history with Indigenous peoples of Canada. The Book Bank hopes to continue this ‘conversation’ by integrating Indigenous story-telling into our programming. Thanks to our volunteer, Kathi Tanel, for helping to make this special evening a reality.
